Electricity Blackouts Caused By Moroccan Election Revenge

Personally, while watching the US elections, I found it glamourous and well organized, and I’m in love with the pun intended by America’s opposing candidates. I wanted to have a look at what was going on with the elections where I come from, Morocco, which every time is dominated by corrupt candidates spending the ultimate faith of the needy: the CASH on the poor and illiterate people in exchange for their votes.

I was reading a lot of stories in Arabic about the mess these candidates were creating beside the corruption–the pollution. As their followers throw flyers all over the place, they create a vast backdrop of pollution and litter Moroccan cities’ sidewalks with illustrated glossy papers representing different parties. Funny, didn’t Morocco host one of the most significant environmental events on an international scale, the COP22?

So far, everything was normal until I read this story about one collective counselor in the commune of Sidi Bouchab, the region of Souss Massa. He submitted an urgent petition asking a district worker to investigate the power blackouts in the 13th district, which he considered an act of revenge on the area’s residents by a candidate who punished the residents, who did not vote for him, by cutting off the electricity in the area. Are we in 2021 or a pre-historic era? While the question remains unanswered, the Moroccan drama continues…
