Moroccan "Kitten Killer" Controversy

Moroccan Kitten Killer

A Moroccan woman living in Fez, who must've been bored out of her mind (I would know since it's my hometown), couldn't find anything better to do than to order her pet dog to kill one of her pet kittens and film it on video to post online.

In the video, the woman's voice can be heard off camera in the background, saying, "It's ugly; you don't want it, do you? I don't want it either; I don't like it." And she posted this video on her Instagram account; how stupid can you be?!

In the video, she orders her dog to kill the kitten and shows the inanimate kitten being dragged by the neck across the frame. It was a scene of indescribable violence. It went viral and caused an outcry on social media. Moroccan Internet users called on the authorities to prosecute her.

#JailFortheCatKiller has gone viral on Moroccan social media, with many netizens calling for the woman to be sued. "When will we start enforcing the law against those who torture animals?" asked many users. The Moroccan Penal Code punishes "anyone who, without necessity, kills or mutilates (...) any domestic animal" with a prison sentence of two to six months. It's a law on paper, but it's rarely enforced. This girl only got prosecuted because she posted the evidence, and one of the most prominent media outlets in France picked up, causing international drama and forcing Moroccan authorities to do something.

The uproar forced Moroccan police to do their job to identify her, arrest her, and sentence her to two months in prison to prevent her infamy from growing any bigger as the "Kitten Killer." While I hope this will be the last case of someone abusing animals and posting videos of it online, the Moroccan Drama continues…
