The Moroccan Majmar’s Vacation
The Majmar is an old brazier from Morocco essential for cooking, and above all, keeping dishes warm. The Moroccan Majmar is in the shape of a traditional barbecue, made by craftsmen, to support the different sizes of tajine dishes. Some people use it as a fire pit that they fill up with charcoal to boil water in the traditional Moroccan kettle and use the warmth of the coals as a heater, which many times has resulted into unforeseen tragedies.
Many people have died or suffocated by inhaling charcoal smoke, especially in the Moroccan rural areas, where the inhabitants can’t afford to buy a heater, or they don’t have access to electricity. Many others use it for different reasons, such as black magic spells, and the “Moroccan Majmar” is the superstar of the black magic, bringing love to the person who wants to consult the sorcerer, especially the wives who wanna adjust their marital relations by subjugating the husband and making him return ASAP to the marital nest, where sometimes, the wives make them swallow some spells to have full control over them. Sheep’s tongue is widely consumed in Morocco, and the wives often replace it with a donkey’s tongue to make their husbands act nicely and peacefully like a donkey (more context about the popularity of the donkey’s tongue coming soon on Moroccan Drama).
Back to the Majmar, which is also used also to practice sorcery acts related to revenge or repulsion…It’s always in ACTION! #WTF Except from the first day of Ramadan (Holy Month of Fasting in Islam) to Lailat al Qadr, (The Night of Power) that marks the night in which the Qur'an was first revealed to the Prophet Muhammad by Allah. For this reason, many Muslims will treat the last ten days of the holy month as a period that they devote for praying and reading the Qur'an, while others use the last days of Ramadan to light their Majmar and prepare their spell to burn through the fire and the flames as there’s a popular and strong belief that on this sacred night (stay tuned to Moroccan Drama for more on that), the handcuffed demons will be released, so they ask them to fulfill their needs on this night.
While many stick to what the Messenger of Allah, Prophet Muhammad once said: “When the month of Ramadan begins, the gates of Heaven are opened; the gates of Hell-fire are closed, and the devils are chained.” (Sahih Bukhari 1800), and prohibit themselves not to use it until Lailat al Qadr, (The Night of Power) and put the Majmar to rest and enjoy its well-deserved annual vacation of 26 nights, others don’t care and use the Majmar during the whole year including the holy month.
