Moroccan Drama on Italian Media

The Italian combine harvester that ran over two young Moroccan women in Milan

The Italian combine harvester that ran over two young Moroccan women in Milan

In Milan, a Romanian drug dealer admitted to the Italian media that she delivered drugs to six Moroccans (two women and four men) in a cornfield where the group was having fun, drinking booze, and sniffing drugs. I understand that many Moroccans go to drink in the fields to hide from people's curiosity as drinking alcohol in Morocco is illegal for Moroccans and Haram (Prohibited by Islam), the official religion in Morocco. But going to drink on a densely cultivated cornfield near Lodi (southeast of Milan)? I am still trying to figure out why anyone would do that in Italy, where Moroccans obviously have more freedom than their own country. The daylit party didn't last as long as they had hoped. While drinking and using drugs and sitting on the ground, a giant agricultural vehicle emerged and approached them. Stunned by drugs and not very lucid, they could not move immediately, and the combine harvester ended up crushing the two young Moroccan women, who were closest to its trajectory. Sara El Jaafari, 28, and Hanan Nekhla, 32, identified by Italian Media, were killed by a 28-year-old Italian farm machine driver, now under investigation for murder. He said the corn was very tall, and he saw nothing. The Italian newspapers reported that the Moroccan girls were thought to be asleep or possibly knocked out by drugs and alcohol when the tractor-driven threshing machine ran over them.

According to Corriere Della Serra, the 21-year-old Romanian, who lives on the street and has a 4-year-old child, was also injured in the shocking accident but did not go to the hospital because she was afraid of losing her child. Like her, the four men fled when the accident occurred. Italian Police identified one of the men as a 35-year-old Moroccan man who also sustained injuries to his left foot but managed to escape, meaning he left without returning or caring about the others' condition. Sara also lived after the accident and managed to call 112 and inform the authorities that "she is injured and her friend is dead" after an agricultural combine ran over them. The message was sent in Arabic, and by the time a translator translated the message, the rescue teams discovered the torn bodies 30 hours later. "Why did those two run away? Maybe they were illegal, or perhaps they had to hide something…Instead of leaving them in the field, they could be saved," said Hanan's cousin, Meryem, 24, complaining in an interview with Repubblica. While the upcoming days will shed more light on this incident, the Moroccan Drama continues in Italy and somewhere else…
